Cellar Door Records is celebrating the release of Cellar Door Records Volume III on Friday, March 18 at the Grog Shop in Cleveland Heights.
The Cleveland-based boutique record label was formed by friends Justin Markert and Rick Fike, who in 2002 opened a coffee shop in Madison called Cellar Door Coffee & Music. The locale served as an arts hub of sorts, featuring everything from acoustic singer-songwriters to hardcore acts. Realizing they were experiencing firsthand a music scene many never see, Markert and Fike decided to establish tangible evidence of their venue's eclectic roster, and Cellar Door Records was born.
Cellar Door Records Volume I had a limited run of 125 copies and featured two tracks each from six artists. After a CD release show, Markert and Fike sold their coffee shop and, in their words, "went back to our normal lives." In 2007, the duo partnered with Adam Butcher to relaunch the Cellar Door label. Volume II was released in March of that year.
Volume III is the 6th release from Cellar Door and is a collection of work from various Cleveland artists, including new material from Josh Jesty, Keith Vance, Markert and Doug Ivancic as well as newcomers like rockers Diamonds & Pearls, indie folksters Humble Home and Tinamou, songwriters Tom Evanchuck and Rob Geer, among many others.
Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes a copy of the album.
UPDATE:
Cellar Door Records Volume III is available online. Buyers will receive an immediate download and the physical CD shipped for $5. It may be purchased here or here, from Bandcamp. It can also be purchased at Music Saves.
